In Ysgol Capelulo we have 2 members of staff who are trained ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) these are Mrs Corcoran & Miss Rowlands.

What is ELSA

An ELSA is a specialist teaching assistant with a wealth of experience of working with children. ELSAs are trained and regularly supervised by the Educational Psychologists in your Local Education Authority. An ELSA is a warm and caring person who wants to help your child feel happy in school and to reach their potential educationally. Their aim is to remove the barriers to learning and to have happy children in school and at home.

ELSA can help with:

  • Loss and bereavement
  • Self-esteem
  • Social skills
  • Emotions
  • Friendship issues
  • Relationships
  • Anger management
  • Behaviour
  • Anxiety
  • Bullying
  • Conflict
  • Relaxation techniques

The ELSA can carry out sessions either individually or in groups.

Please see www.elsa-support.co.uk for more information or contact Mrs Corcoran or Miss Rowlands at school for more information.

Drawing and Talking

The ELSA is also trained in carrying out Drawing and Talking Sessions.

Drawing and Talking is a safe and gentle therapeutic approach, which provides and effective way for children and young people (age 5 to 27) to process emotional pain or trauma they may be experiencing.
